Topsy Turvy Wedding Cake

This cake is a really fun and frivolous wedding cake.

My clients knew that this was the style of cake they wanted and together we came up with a design that reflected the Disney theme of the wedding.

However they did not want a big fairy princess castle or cartoon characters dotted all over the cake.

The colour scheme for the wedding was shades of blue so I used different shades and patterns on each tier.

The bottom tier has a white and blue diamond pattern which works well on wonky cakes.

It is finished with an edible ribbon and bow at the base.

The next tier is white with dark blue rounded hearts in different sizes.

I opted for different sized hearts to add interest and also because it works well with the wonky style.

The top tier is pale blue with piped circles and the iconic Mickey Mouse ears.

These were done using a pressure piping method where the piping nozzle is held close to the surface of the cake and as the royal icing is forced out it spreads out until you reach the desired size of circle.

The cake is topped with two dark blue hearts which were made using sugarpaste with strong wires inserted so that the hearts could be secured into the cake inside plastic tubing.

The last thing on the top of the cake is wires shooting out from the hearts with blue and clear gems including a few Swarovksi crystals to add some real sparkle.

This was a lovely whimsical cake with a subtle disney theme.
