Things To Do Birthday Cake

Picture of Things to do birthday Cake

I made this birthday cake for my dads 60th birthday celebration. I decided on the list as my dad makes lists for almost everything. There are also some running jokes in the family such as Dad coming home from work with a puppy or buying job lots of certain shampoo in case the entire world stocks of it disappear tomorrow.

I began by covering the cake with marzipan and white fondant and allowed it to harden. While the fondant was hardening I made holes along one side of the cake for the spiral rings to sit in.

I made the spiral rings using flower wire covered with black tape. I made the rules on the page with edible pens and then piped the lettering onto the lines. It can be tricky piping in a straight line as there are usually no handy lines as a guide so this was lovely to do.

I piped the birthday greeting by putting one red letter of “happy sixtieth” on each line to create a vertical birthday greeting.

The party was great fun and the cake brought a smile to my dad’s face.

I am Amanda’s step-mother, organiser of the surprise 60th Birthday. I knew we needed a cake - but was stumped on what theme we should adopt. I needn’t have worried. True to form and using her artist talents, Amanda came up with the To Do List - she got it 100% right and her Dad was amazed and absolutely delighted. I can genuinely say that if you want a delicious cake, which is both unique and beautifully crafted, whatever the occasion, you would not be disappointed with a Venus Cake. It isnt just her obvious ability with sugarcraft and her attention to the minutest detail, which makes Amanda a very talented cake maker. In addition to her insistence that the cake itself is perfect in every detail, she brings an artistic flair and individuality. If you are unsure of the ‘theme’ (as I was) Amanda is full of ideas, designs and concepts and will work with you to produce a cake which is as individual as the recipient. You can be confident that your ‘Venus’ cake’s design will be a unique ’show stopper’ which perfectly reflects the person or the occasion for which it is intended. Oh - and they really do taste scrummy too! ps: I am usually the ‘wicked’ step-mother, so I can promise you I am not being biased!
