Sweety Birthday Cake

Sweety Birthday Cake

This cake was made for a 12th birthday party.

As you can probably guess it was for a girl. I do love making cakes for girls - they are so pink and fluffy and much more indulgent than cakes for boys.

Sweety Birthday Cake

My client wanted to give her daughter a really special cake for her celebration.

She had an idea that she wanted to include the sweets you would normally put into a party bag with the cake that you give to take away.

Sweety Birthday Cake

This is not one cake but 16 mini cakes that the party goers could take home with them.

Each bag is a mini sponge cake filled with butter cream and jam and then covered with marzipan.

The cakes are covered with sugarpaste which goes above the top of the cake to form a space that can be filled with sweets.

I had great fun making this cake, although I did feel like a real pig when I bought all the sweets for it.

I didn’t actually need as much as I bought but some things just come in large bags.

I’m sure the checkout guy was looking at my hips and thinking “you should really put those back love”

I added strips of baby pink sugarpaste to the bags.

I started with the sweets by putting some lollies, flumps and fat shoe laces in the corners of the bags.

This created a kind of fence that would hold in the sweets.

I poured in smarties. Smarties are good for this because they are slippery so get into nooks and crannies and they are not too big.

I used small and giant buttons which I placed between the lollies and flumps. I also added rainbow buttons.

The overall colour was pink but the rainbow buttons go perfectly with all the different shades of pink.

I also created a custom made stand for this cake which was super pink with little pink roses, beads, bows and polka dots.

This is just one of those really fun cakes with a bit of girly glamour.
