Number 80 Birthday Cake

This cake was made for an 80th Birthday celebration.
My client wanted the scout emblem piped onto the cake.
The numbers were fruit cake covered with marzipan and ivory and maroon fondant. When covering numbers it is impossible to cover the cake with one piece of fondant and get a smooth, neat finish.
Once the marzipan had hardened a little I transferred the numbers onto a cake board covered with ivory fondant.

I covered the tops of the numbers with ivory fondant and then covered the sides with maroon fondant. Where the two colours met I neatened the join with a maroon fondant rope.
Next I piped the scout emblem (Fleur de Lys) onto the cake. I piped large ones onto the board and smaller ones onto the tops of the numbers.
Once this was done I cut the happy birthday greeting from rolled fondant and stuck in in place on the board. I used a very small brush with a tiny bit of water to attach the letters.

My client was very happy with her cake.
