Louboutin Shoe Birthday Cake
This designer shoe cake was made for a 30th birthday celebration.
The cake was chocolate sponge covered with chocolate marzipan and fondant. I began by making the shoe. I cut the shoe shape from the sponge, filled it with chocolate butter cream and covered it with chocolate marzipan. The colour of the shoe was black with red soles.
I put the shoe to one side and made the shoe box part of the cake. This was done with a square of chocolate sponge covered with chocolate marzipan. Next I made the sides of the box by rolling out fondant with gum tragacanth added for hardening.
The sides of the box needed to harden sufficiently to stand vertically. Once the sides had hardened I attached them to the sides of the marzipaned box with royal icing.
I then rolled out sections of white fondant and crumpled them up to look like the paper inside a shoe box. Next I placed the shoe on top of the crumpled fondant. I did this when the white fondant was still soft so that the shoe would sink in slightly.
Once the shoe was in place I painted it with confectioners glaze to create a patent effect. I added a shoe bag with tassels made from deep red fondant with the birthday greeting piped onto it.
I made two more cakes for this client a few weeks later and she had still not cut the shoe.
