Lemon Birthday Cake

Hello again, I am back after my hols. The weather I ordered did not turn up except for a few hours one morning when I got very sunburned.
Still had a good break and got to stay in a windmill. Now my little cherub is having a week with his nanny and grandad up north eating screwballs so he is happy and I can get lots done.
Back to the point in hand. This lemon cake was made for a 50th birthday celebration.

I must admit I was not entirely sure that all the candles would go on but I think they look really good.
The cake is a lemon sponge cake with lemon syrup drizzled over it and then filled with lemon curd butter cream - making my mouth water after my very dull lunch of a ham sandwich.
The cake was then covered with marzipan and lemon coloured fondant.
I added a number fifty in a lighter shade of yellow and covered the cake board in this same lighter shade.

I had to count the candles around 4 times and get my sister to count them too - just to be sure.
I really like the freshness of the yellow on this cake, it matches the flavour well.
