Heart Wedding Cake

Heart Wedding Cake

I am sitting very close to the radiator while I write this post. The weather is horrid and wet and it is a gloomy day.

Ok now that you’re in a party mood I will tell you about this wedding cake. It was a truly beautiful cake so it will cheer you up on such a miserable day.

This cake was made for a wedding reception at the Ivy Hill Hotel in Margaretting. the bride and groom were married abroad (wise move I think as I look out of the window) and had a celebration with friends and family on their return.

The cake was designed with fresh flowers which I think always look so lovely. Very often when fresh flowers are used my client’s florist does much of the dressing of the cake at the venue but in this case my client did not have a florist as she did not have the full wedding here.

So I had to learn some flower arranging. The flowers used were Cezanne roses which open slowly and have a very plush, full bloom (do I sound like a florist yet?).

They are perfect for use in a wedding cake because they last well and provide excellent coverage.

I have to give a mention to Carolyn who provided the wedding cake flowers. She was so helpful and provided really lovely quality roses.

The tiers of the cake were heart shaped and stacked with a gap between the first and second tier. I used a heart shaped dummy as a separator as the roses would stick securely into it.

Carolyn told me that I could arrange the flowers the night before the wedding and then spray them, cover them in cling film and pop them in the fridge - just like that!

That is exactly what I did and what do you know - it worked brilliantly!

I really enjoyed arranging them and the polystyrene dummy was perfect for the job.

Carolyn made the top display to fit within the size of the top tier.

My sis was over from Oz when I had to deliver this cake so she came along. Whenever any family members come on deliveries with me they see it as a chance to see the venue and see what I do and I see it as a source of unpaid labour. So its a win win all round.

As I write this I am looking at the driving rain and thinking that my idea to take Dexter to a new comic/toy shop after school with some of his birthday money (I can see the hole it’s burning in his piggy bank) was not so great.

I assembled the cake at the venue and also included a central supporting dowel which was anchored in the base drums of the cake and then went up through the cake tiers and separator right to the top.

Whenever I have a cake with narrow separators I construct it with this support system as the overall cake once assembled is not as sturdy as a stacked cake where each ascending tier is smaller than the one below.

The bride was at the venue when I arrived and when she was allowed to look she loved her wedding cake.

Hey sis, the photos look wonderful and I really enjoyed helping. You did an amazing job with the flowers, the cake was absolutely beautiful. Will be happy to offer more free labour when I come over next year x

Hi Amanda, Thank you so much for this amazing cake, which was so beautiful and everything I had envisaged for my wedding reception. The flowers looked great and your flower arranging skills are excellent! Best of all, the cake tasted just as good as it looked, I think the zesty lemon was my favourite although the other layers were just as good too! Thank you once agein, Leisa.
