Orange and Gold Cupcakes

These cupcakes were made for a birthday celebration at Pontlands Park near Chelmsford.

The cupcakes are a mix of chocolate and vanilla with big swirls of butter cream on top.
I made the stand with cake drums and polystyrene dummies covered with gold ribbon.
The top cake was chocolate filled with chocolate butter cream.

It was covered with chocolate marzipan and ivory fondant icing.
It was decorated with orange, gold and brown butterflies around the side of the cake.
The cupcakes were also decorated with large and small butterflies in the same colours.

I used modelling paste to make the butterflies.
It is great to use for these type of decorations because it sets very well but remains soft enough to eat.
I brushed the rolled out paste with edible lustre dust before cutting the butterflies.
I placed the cut out butterflies in apple trays to give them some shape.

My client let me know that her mum loved her cake and had a lovely birthday celebration.

Hi there,
Fab cakes!!
I love the lettering on this one… did you pipe it?? Or is it a template?
Also, where did you train to learn all the skills for your cake decorating?
Many thanks

This cake is amazing! How much would it cost to recreate in more manly colours/design? And would it be possible to have only 2 teirs of cup cakes. Finally do you deliver to north london?
Thanks
Zoe
