Digital Village Anniversary Cake

This rich fruitcake was made for the 30 year anniversary of Digital Village. My client wanted a very traditional looking cake with candles on it.

The Digital Village logo was done by making a raised stencil with the logo back to front. It looked something like a rubber stamp used to make prints with.

I then rolled out blue fondant and pressed the stencil gently onto the fondant. This created an indent of the letters which I then cut out with a very sharp scalpel - always slightly risky with me!

Once all the parts of the logo were cut out I transferred them onto the top of the cake. I added semi circles above and below the logo in pale blue fondant and finished the edges with blue piping.

I made a fondant ribbon to go around the cake. I chose this method instead of fabric ribbon as I felt it gave the cake a more traditional feel and it meant I could make a big bow at the front of the cake.

The cake was to be used as a promotional piece to be photographed. Fruit cake was chosen as it keeps well and could be used for some length of time for promotional purposes.
