Ivory & Crystal Wedding Cake

Ivory & Crystal Wedding Cake

This cake was made for a wedding celebration at Layer Marney Towers.

My clients had seen a cake that they loved and wanted to have elements of this in their wedding cake.

The bride provided two beautiful brooches which she wanted to include with edible ribbon. I suggested the ribbons have a lustrous sheen which was created with white pearl lustre dust.

Although the overall colour of the cake was ivory, I used white lustre dust as I have found that most ivory dusts produce a finish which is too yellow and can look gold.

My clients also wanted to include faceted gems on their cake. They did not want sugar diamonds as, although they look great they are not quite the same as the real thing.

They chose Swarovski faceted gems. If at this point you are thinking that using real gems on a wedding cake is a really bad idea then worry not.

One tier with the gems was a dummy tier and the top tier was one which the bride and groom wanted to keep and were they were prepared to remove the gems prior to eating.

This mean’t that no cake with gems attached was served to guests.

My clients did not want traditional bows on the ribbons and had seen some they liked so I recreated these for their cake and then attached the brooches once the bows were in place.

The bottom and third tier have a diamond embossed pattern around the side of the cakes and these tiers are trimmed with green ribbon which coordinated with the colour scheme at the venue.

I love the clean lines on this cake and the beautiful combination of twinkling gems, stunning brooches and satin look ribbon.

I am making a wedding cake for my friend, and would be grateful if you could tell me how long in advance I can ice and decorate the cakes before the big day (they are sponge, not fruit). I love your ivory & crystal wedding cake, and am doing something similar but with satin ribbons. Many thanks
