Colette’s Cakes

I love all things cake and love looking at new ideas and anything out of the ordinary.

Colette Peters is a cake designer in New York who creates the most outstanding cakes.

They are not just cakes but edible works of art.

I have a couple of her books from my local library and deny other members the pleasure of her cakes as I have her books for most of the time.

Bit selfish I know but I do love looking at cakes, the techniques, the tools used and the inspirational designs.

I love the fact that her cakes are so out of the ordinary.

She has a very distinctive style and is so sought after I’m sure people wanting a cake go to her because of that style rather than telling her what they want.

Because of her style I am sure that her cakes are probably not to everyone’s taste but whatever your taste you have to admire her passion and talent.

I exhibited my wedding dress cake at a wedding fair earlier this year.

I heard one woman remark very loudly that she thought it was revolting.

My first reaction at my first wedding fair was that my bottom lip started to wobble and I wanted to go home (I am 40 years old!).

When you create something, not everyone is going to like it but if it stimulates a reaction and makes someone think about it that is a good thing.

I got over my lip wobble and did not offer her a sample of chocolate cake so all’s well that ends well as they say.

I am in awe of Colette’s ability and have loved every one of her cakes I’ve seen.
