Cake Decorating Tuition

This Iggle Piggle cake was made during a one to one session with a client.
For anyone who doesn’t have small children Iggle Piggle is a character in The Night Garden. Don’t check it out - you will never get the song out of your head.
Ok, now that we are all aware of who Iggle Piggle is (I will try not to repeat his name too many times) I will carry on.
The cake was created through the joint efforts of myself and the lady who booked the tuition.

I went to visit her in her own home with all the equipment she would need to complete her cake.
This included an eight inch round genoese cake, marzipan, sugarpaste in various colours, ingredients for butter cream, jam, utensils and sugarcraft tools.
On this occasion I also provided 15 cupcakes to decorate for the children at the party.
My client, Jane wanted to make a cake for her son, Archie’s 1st birthday celebration which was going to be attended by lots of family and friends.
Jane wanted to do something herself but was unsure of where to begin and how to create the design she wanted.

We had a chat about what Jane wanted to achieve and the design of the cake. Because we had only one day in which to make a fab birthday cake I suggested that we kept it simple.

It is possible, especially I think with childrens cakes to use simple techniques which can produce great effects.
We came up with a design that incorporated various elements of The Night Garden and of course Iggle Piggle himself.
I demonstrated decorating techniques to Jane including filling and covering the cake with butter cream and marzipan and covering with sugarpaste through to the techniques used for the other cake decorations.
Once Jane felt comfortable with the process she could then produce and apply decorations herself.
As it was a one to one session I was on hand throughout to help with any bits Jane needed help with.

We also gave the cupcakes some simple decorations which tied in with the main cake.
For this cake I made a cupcake stand in colours to co ordinate with her cake.
Jane was Absoloutely thrilled with the finished result. Archie was more interested in the cookie cutters I had with me.
If you would like to create a cake for a celebration but would like on hand expert help to do it then one to one cake tuition may be of interest to you.
If so please get in touch to have a chat about tuition.

What a wonderful day ! I had such fun with Amanda - making this wonderful cake for my son, learning tips and techniques for future cake making and enjoying a nice glass of wine !
My friends and family were amazed at the results and I felt like I had created something beautiful for Archie ( with a little expert help from Amanda… ) The children loved the chocolate cup cakes and Archie just loved Iggle Piggle. He couldn’t wait to eat him !
