Anniversary Cake

I was asked to make this cake by a lovely lady living in the North East.

My first thought was “how fab, someone all the way up there want a cake from me in Essex” and then wondered how I was going to get it there!

Anyway as it happens she wanted it for friends who live in Essex - how very convenient for me.

The cake was a delicious rich fruit cake with the traditional covering of marzipan and fondant icing.

You know it’s not a good idea writing these posts when I’m hungry - makes me want to raid the fridge.

I wanted to make an elegant cake befitting a silver wedding anniversary.

The cake was covered with ivory fondant which I had planned to give a pearl sheen finish.

Once covered I decided against this option because I felt the simplicity of the matt ivory fondant was the right look.

I must say that sugar flowers are not actually my favourite thing to do.

Not because of the time involved but because they don’t usually excite me the way that other aspects of sugarcraft do.

BUT I recently saw some beautiful  flowers on a sugar flower shop website and they inspired me to make sugar flowers for this cake.

How cool is that - seeing something and liking it so much that you want to do it yourself.

I added little silver leaves around the flowers and a cluster of sugar flowers on the top,
